«Nelkenholz»
residential development
In July 2021, Gossau launched an investor competition for the ecological and sustainable development of the site on Nelkenstrasse/Bischofszellerstrasse.
The municipality attaches particular importance to versatile utilisation that meets the needs of the community as well as the demand for high-quality spaces for socialising and recreation. The design of the open space also plays a central role in this ambitious project, which aims to lead Gossau into a more sustainable and vibrant future.
The winning team of the Gossau investor competition, consisting of Mettler Entwickler AG, K & L Architekten, Hager Partner Landschaftsarchitektur and Blumer Lehmann as timber construction specialists, has set the bar high with their project. The design comprises two elegant, elongated wooden buildings that boast impressively generous and varied outdoor spaces and promote mixed, integrative cohabitation.
The project is characterised by its comprehensive sustainability: it fulfils the highest ecological, economic and social standards. The resource-saving design and operation are geared towards minimising energy consumption. The outdoor spaces are rich in biodiversity, while the apartments are offered at affordable rents and purchase prices. The social mix is ensured by a variety of apartment types and qualities. The sustainable low-tech timber construction significantly reduces grey energy in the life cycle and makes it possible to operate the development as a net-zero energy project.
