Development of the «Weierweid site»
The Weierweid site in the St. Georgen district of St. Gallen is to be developed into a lively and sustainable residential area. The project aims to preserve the recreational uses and create attractive living space with a diverse range of offers for young and old.
The Feldschützengesellschaft St. Gallen is the owner of the land in Weierweid. In order to make optimum use of it, the shooting range will be relocated underground. The planned residential development should make it possible to finance the shooting tunnel. The Feldschützengesellschaft has commissioned Mettler Entwickler AG to develop the site. Part of the site is leased to the tennis club, another part is used as a family garden area and the slope area is used as a ski area in winter. The leisure uses will be retained, although it may be necessary to relocate them.
The site development takes the following aspects into account:
Living space: Modern, intergenerational living space is being created. Great importance is attached to sustainable construction and environmentally friendly design.
Leisure uses: Existing leisure facilities such as the ski lift, tennis courts and family gardens will be retained and in some cases upgraded.
Environment and sustainability: Measures such as the relocation of the shooting range to an underground tunnel will reduce noise emissions and the uncovering of the Weierweidbach stream will help to improve flood protection.
Mobility and access: A mobility concept will ensure optimal connections to the city center. In addition, underground parking spaces will be created to provide more space for meeting places.
development process:
The project is being developed in several phases. An urban planning feasibility study will be followed by voluntary participation, rezoning of the area, an architectural competition and the creation of a special land use plan. Construction can start in stages from 2031.
