Conversion of
«Givaudan Flavour Division Headquarters»
Mettler Entwickler AG played a central role in the transformation of the former production site on what was once the Maggi site in Kemptthal.
On behalf of Givaudan Schweiz AG, the building was converted into a modern office building that proudly holds the LEED Gold sustainability certificate. The renovated building now serves as the headquarters of Givaudan’s flavour division and offers space for around 200 employees.
Transformation of the Givaudan building
In order to fulfil the need for spacious, high-quality workplaces for Givaudan employees, the existing building was extended upwards. This measure not only created additional space, but also served to renew the building’s vertical access mechanism. The technical systems and installations were also completely modernised. Another key aspect of the renovation was the comprehensive removal of odour contamination caused by aromatic substances, which revitalised the building fabric.

Flexible design and exclusive style
The office workstations were designed as adaptable, zonable open-plan offices, with particular emphasis placed on selected materials and colour combinations. The high-specification standard also includes a regulated indoor climate all year round and acoustics that match the high-quality interior design.
Robust elegance with a modern touch
The existing building is a solid construction with carefully cleaned exposed brick. Inside, the façade was also clad with acoustically effective and thermally insulating wood panelling. The original exterior windows were retained and supplemented with new, heat-insulating wooden windows to harmoniously combine tradition and modernity.
Harmonious expansion with an ecological focus
The two-storey addition to the building was realised in an attractive combination of timber elements and exposed clinker brick. The windows, made of robust metal, complement the design. The flat roof features extensive greening and was also fitted with an environmentally friendly photovoltaic system, which emphasises the link between aesthetics and environmental concerns.

When realising the Givaudan project, we were faced with challenging tasks that required creativity and innovation. Our task was not only to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing building, but also to integrate the principles of sustainability and environmental compatibility. For us, this project was proof that sophisticated architecture and ecological awareness can go hand in hand.
